Sherweb has added DefensX browser protection tools to its Cloud Marketplace, giving its 7,500+ MSP partners new options to better protect businesses from browser-based cyberattacks.

Under the recently announced integration, DefensX is available immediately to MSP partners that want to integrate DefensX for their customers through the Sherweb Partner Portals, bringing powerful tools that block scammers from infecting devices used by business employees. To protect users, DefensX helps MSPs identify and block access to malicious domains before they are opened on their personal and company devices, according to Sherweb.

“It gives MSPs another way to strengthen their security offerings,” Benji Germain, Sherweb’s vice president of product, told ChannelE2E. “The browser, specifically, is an area that is often overlooked. A lot of the existing security stack focuses on endpoints, email, and backups, which are all essential, but there is still exposure when users are online, clicking links, accessing unknown sites, or using unmanaged devices.”

That is where DefensX comes in to help MSPs close that gap without introducing friction for end users, said Germain. “It is lightweight, runs in the background, and allows MSPs to offer protection in situations where traditional tools may not reach, especially in remote or hybrid environments.”

DefensX is built to help MSPs enhance security for remote and hybrid workers so that they can browse and access web versions of workplace applications without exposing themselves and their companies to vulnerabilities, said Germain. The built-in DefensX portal integrates with enterprise applications including Microsoft 365 and a broad range of other tools available through the Sherweb Marketplace, according to the company.

By being brought into the Sherweb Marketplace, DefensX can now be accessed by MSPs and other partners through the Marketplace without any need for separate integrations, said Germain. “It also complements the rest of their security stack, making it easier to build out a more complete offering for their clients. And because it is part of our ecosystem, they are getting more than just access to a product, they are backed by a team that understands their business and is focused on making adoption as smooth and practical as possible.”

DefensX fills a browser security void in its offerings, he said.

“We are always paying attention to where there are gaps in the tools partners have access to, and browser security has been one of those areas,” said Germain. “As the way people work continues to evolve, especially with remote and hybrid setups, we have seen more interest in solutions that can protect users no matter where they are or what device they are on. It was about recognizing a pattern and staying ahead of where the need is going.”

DefensX provides filtering that MSPs can use to restrict and prevent worker access to dangerous and harmful websites, while also running employee web browsers in the cloud, which protects against malware and phishing by keeping threats contained and away from users’ devices.DefensX also uses a zero-trust framework that enforces strict file and credential verification which prevents users and devices to be trusted by default. DefensX also provides automated AI-generated reports on browser usage that can flag potential risks by employees.

Browser Protection Tools are Worthy of MSP Attention, Says Analyst

Rob Enderle, principal analyst at Enderle Group, told ChannelE2E that the addition of DefensX web browser protection tools to Sherweb’s Marketplace and offerings should benefit MSPs and their customers.

“It should simplify their engagement and allow for some bundling of services over time with related cost savings,” said Enderle. For business users, “being more secure in their transactions and interactions is a clear benefit,” he said. “And as this specifically focuses on hybrid or remote workers who are generally far more exposed than those on-site, this potentially makes hybrid and work from home far safer and more viable which should have a positive impact on customer employee morale.”

Enderle said he is seeing more partnerships forming to deliver new services to business customers.

“Protecting remote workers has become a very hot topic of late given they are increasingly being targeted due to their vulnerability,” he said. “Security firms are seeing this as a revenue opportunity, potentially a very big revenue opportunity.”

In March, Sherweb added the Rewst Robotic Process Automation (RPA) platform to its growing Sherweb Marketplace partner portal, bringing new capabilities for MSPs to help them provide time-saving workflow automation services for their customers.
