Macquarie Acquires AirTrunk Data Centers: Report -

Macquarie Group has acquired Australian data center provider AirTrunk for A$3 billion (US$2.1 billion), according to Bloomberg. AirTrunk CEO Robin Khuda will retain a minority stake in the business, the report says.

AirTrunk's previous owners were Goldman Sachs Group and TPG Six Street Capital.

Macquarie Group is a Sydney, Australia-based investment bank and financial services firm. The company has extensive experience in the data center market.

Macquarie's investment and ownership stakes include:

Bluebird Network, a data center and network services provider in Columbia, Missouri.

Aligned Energy, a data center provider headquartered in Plano, Texas, with additional locations in Dallas, Texas; Virginia; Phoenix, Arizona; and Salt Lake City, Utah.

AirTrunk is a hyperscale data center provider with locations across the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) -- including Sydney and Melbourne, Australia; Singapore and Hong Kong. More APAC locations are coming soon, AirTrack's website indicates.

Key AirTrunk partners include Datacom, one of Australia's largest professional IT services companies, and StarHub, a provider of IT, communication and connectivity services.
